A249 to Open – One Lane Only

Written by on 21 January 2016

Highways England Update The A249 to Open one lane only – 21st January 2016

The A249 has been closed northbound to the Isle of Sheppey since Monday 11th January 2016 following a burst water main and subsequently a sink hole around the pipe damage.

Highways England have updated their website as of tonight to let the public know the duel carriageway will stay closed until 23.59 on the 22nd January 2016 when one lane will open to traffic.  This should ease the congestion on the A249 at the Key Street slip road in peak travel times.

Emergency road works along the A249 northbound between the junctions with the A2 and the A250 Queenborough will continue and the public are told to still expect disruption as there will be one of two lanes closed until works are completed and safety checks have been done.
