A249 Crash: Police appeal for witnesses

A249 crash that closed the road for 10 hours

Kent Police Serious Collision Unit are this afternoon appealing for anyone with information regarding last night’s incident on the northbound section of the A249, especially anyone with dash cam footage.

A man in his 20’s was taken to hospital after a collision which closed the road last night and during this morning’s busy rush hour. The young man from Gillingham was believed to have been standing beside his vehicle at the time, when a White Volkswagen Caddy Van collided with the young mans broken down car.

Chest injuries

The driver of the Black Audi A1 Sport sustained chest injuries and was taken to a London Hospital following the accident on the Sheppey bound slip road at Bobbing at approx 11:50pm last night (Wednesday 24th October).

A woman in her 20s and a teenage girl, both from Swale, sustained head injuries and were both passengers in the Audi.

The woman was taken to hospital and the girl was taken to a London hospital.

The driver of the van, a 42-year-old man from Murston, has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

The A249 was shut Sheppey-bound between the A2 Key Street Roundabout, near Keycol, and the B2005 Grovehurst Road for Iwade and Kemsley. It reopened at about 10am this morning.
