Another delay for regeneration roadworks

Written by on 11 June 2018

Change of plan for Sittingbourne’s Roadworks

Major planned roadworks in Sittingbourne have been delayed for a second time, in just 2 weeks.

Plans first drawn up to take place during the May half term were postponed after the town suffered from torrential downpours & storms, notices were then installed in the area informing traffic that works and closures would begin this morning (11th June) but have now been postponed for a second time with works now scheduled to be undertaken at night to relieve traffic congestion.

The A2 St. Michaels road will now be closed from 8pm this evening and will take upto 5 months to complete.

The section of St. Michaels road due for closure tonight will be between the junction of Dover Street & Station Street.

HGVs and through traffic will be diverted along Dover Street, West Street, A2 London Road, Key Street, the Key Street Roundabout, The Old Sheppey Way, Bobbing Interchange, Staplehurst Link Road, St Paul’s Street, Mill Way, Eurolink Way and Crown Quay Lane.

Vehicles heading west through the town will still be able to use St. Michaels Road, Station Street & West Street

Drivers will now need to read the road more carefully as West Street (Outside the Vineyard & Wetherspooons) now becomes 2 way to traffic.

Two way traffic

The following roads will become two-way during this period:

Dover Street between St Michael’s Road and Milton Road
West Street between Dover Street and Station Road
Station Road from West Street to where it becomes two-way

Andy Hudson from The Spirit of Sittingbourne suggests that town centre visitors will need to review their parking options over the period of the roadworks and bus users should take note of temporary stop changes.

It has also been revealed today that the Forum Car Park will now re-open on Wednesday 13th June
