Reward for responsible behaviour

A dog owner from the Isle of Sheppey has been rewarded for her responsible behaviour with a £50 gift voucher.

Sue Smith, of Warden, Eastchurch, won the prize as part of a Swale Borough Council campaign to crack down on dog walkers who don’t clean up after their pets.

For the last two months, while out and about, Swale Borough Council and KCC wardens have been handing out tokens for a prize draw to dog walkers they see picking up after their pets.

Mrs Smith was seen clearing up after Storm, her 8-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, in Warden Bay.

Cllr David Simmons, cabinet member for environment and rural affairs at the council, said:

“Local people rightly complain about the mess left by thoughtless owners who don’t clean up after their dogs.

“While we work hard to catch this irresponsible minority, we also wanted to show we appreciate those owners who do the right thing.”
