Former Labour Parliamentary Candidate becomes Tory

Mike Rolfe, the former Labour parliamentary candidate for Sittingbourne and Sheppey has joined the Conservative Party and is supporting Gordon Henderson to win the General Election on 12^th December 2019.

Mr Rolfe, who is from Minster-on-Sea and was recently elected as POA Chairman at HMP Elmley, came second in the 2017 General Election.

Mr Rolfe announced he had quit the Labour Party in August this year over Jeremy Corbyn’s handling of Brexit. However, he also supports Mr Henderson for his work in Sittingbourne and Sheppey, particularly, what he has done for Prison Officers.

Mr Rolfe said,

It is clear that the Conservative party are making every effort to deliver Brexit whilst other parties continue to reject the democratic decision taken in 2016 to leave the European Union.  We must ensure that the Conservative party are given the mandate to get Brexit done.

Gordon has an open door to the Trade unions at the three Sheppey Prisons, he has shown his support for Prison staff on safety, having correct equipment, pay and getting back a pension age of 60 in line with other essential emergency workers.

Mr Henderson said,

‘I am delighted that Mike decided to join the Conservative Party and look forward to working with him as we fight the upcoming election together.
‘It takes some courage to leave one political party and join another. However, I have known Mike for some time and I know that one thing he does not lack is courage!’
