Tesco in the Forum Sittingbourne, set to close.

Tesco has announced it is to shut its branch in Sittingbourne’s Forum Shopping Centre.

The supermarket giant released a statement yesterday (Monday) saying it had reached the “difficult decision” to close the Metro store in the new year.

Tracey Clements, Tesco’s managing director for convenience said: “We have today announced to colleagues that we have taken the difficult decision to close our Sittingbourne Metro store.

“We would like to thank all our customers who have shopped in our store and we will continue to do our best to serve them through our Express stores on Canterbury Road and in Chalkwell Road.”

The branch is due to shut on Saturday 6th January 2018.

The former “Somerfield” & “Gateways” building in the Forum Shopping Centre in the centre of Sittingbourne, which has been the home of Tesco since 2012 has already received interest from “Poundstretcher” who say they are interested in taking over the lease of building in the new year. Poundstretcher recently opened its doors in a former Tesco’s homeware store in Sheerness high street last Friday.

Tesco’s who own the Forum Shopping Centre, say they are not interested in selling off its building in Sittingbourne.
