IDEAS TEST BRINGS DIGITAL DANCE TO SWALE

Written by on 26 May 2017

Did you know the average person spends 8 hours and 41 minutes on electronic devices per day? Inspired by the Right to be Forgotten law introduced in the UK in May 2014, Katie Dale-Everett Dance invites you to join in Conversations About the Digital in the heart of the community in Swale.

Ideas Test are bringing this unique interactive arts project to No.34 and the Oasis Academy Community Theatre on the Isle of Sheppey.

Created by cross-genre choreographer Katie Dale-Everett, and funded by Arts Council England and Channel Four’s Random Acts, it brings together film, dance, and choreography to examine how we share our lives in the digital age and its impact on us now and in years to come.

Monday 12 June sees a performance at the Oasis Academy Community Theatre,

Sheppey of Digital Tattoo; the story of two lovers and the capturing of their relationship through social media and their struggle for the right to be forgotten. It questions our privacy, and identity in the increasingly digitalised world we live in, exposing the way our online actions can be permanent and questions the relationship of our virtual and physical lives.

Tickets prices start at £8 for adults, £6 for students, and groups of 10 or more for £5 each, and are available from http://digitaltattooatoasis.bpt.me

Digital Tattoo: Artefact 1 is a short film where the human body becomes a canvas for the data we share via the websites we visit and the apps we use. The film was funded by and featured on Channel Four’s Random Acts.

Free screenings throughout the day from Tuesday 6 June until Tuesday 13 June at No, 34, High Street, Sittingbourne.

Suitable for ages 16+

Conversations About the Digital is a performance that’s a fantastic introduction to watching dance. It uses sound and movement to look at the way our personal data remains long after our phones, and bodies, are gone. Audience members can take part with their own smart phones or watch what unfolds.

Performances are free and held at No,34, High Street, Sittingbourne on Saturday 10 June at 12pm and 1pm, Tuesday 13 June at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm.  Suitable for ages 16+

For group bookings email contact@ideastest.co.uk or ring 07713 865955

There is also a family-friendly drop in activity inspired by the ideas of Katie’s work, to create your own digital tattoos on a paper version of yourself, on Saturday 10 June, between 11am and 2pm, suitable for all ages.

Digital Tattoo is the story of two lovers and the capturing of their relationship through social media and their struggle for the right to be forgotten. It questions our privacy, and identity in the increasingly digitalised world we live in. Using dance as a way to tell the story means that the company can expose the way our online actions can be permanent and questions the relationship of our virtual and physical lives.

Audiences who saw Digital Tattoo on the original tour in 2015 said;

“The use of dance and film projection made me think about the right to be forgotten  concept, something I had not thought of or realised the seriousness of before.”

            “The layering, the emotion, the minute movements that everybody could laugh     along with like dancing on a balcony in a night club. Roller coaster of digital, visual      and oral stimulation. Superb!”
