Licensing review for Sheppey pub

Written by on 16 April 2017

A Leysdown pub has agreed to take steps to reduce disruption following an incident on Saturday 8 April 2017.

Following the incident, which saw four people injured, Kent Police requested an expedited licensing review for The Talk of the Town, in The Promenade.

The hearing took place in Swale Borough Council’s council chambers on Thursday 13 April 2017 and the following measures were agreed:

  • Plastic glasses will be used at the premises after 6pm.
  • SIA staff will be on duty on any evening where there is entertainment scheduled for the day.
  • Improvements will be made to the venue’s CCTV and record keeping.
  • The use of pool tables will be limited in the evening.

A second licensing review will take place in early May. This will look into whether any further action is needed.

Inspector Garry Brimson, from Kent Police, said: ‘We are pleased with the outcome of the review and that the premises’ supervisor has offered to take immediate steps to ensure that there is no repeat of last weekend’s disorder.

‘We were able to work together with the pub and agree with these interim steps, which will begin from Friday.

‘We believe these will help to promote public safety and prevent crime and disorder however we will continue to monitor the situation.’

Officers are still investigating last week’s incident and anyone with information is asked to call Kent Police on 01795 419119 quoting reference 08-1350.
