MHS Homes Supports Medway Foodbank

MHS homes’ repairs team is supporting Medway Foodbank’s work to help families in crisis during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Colleagues from mhs homes are providing vital transport services to help the charity collect donated food and toiletries and take the donated stock from the foodbank’s headquarters to its distribution centre, where it is made into food parcels for delivery.

Asset Delivery Manager at mhs homes, Scott Norris, explained: “With normal repairs work limited by the coronavirus ‘lockdown’, we’d been keen to provide support to agencies doing their best to help the community during the crisis.

“When Medway Foodbank asked for help with collecting donated food and essential items from supermarkets and taking stock from the charity’s headquarters to their distribution centre, we were more than happy to help out. “Two mhs colleagues, Bryan Bird and Alfie Andrews, visit six supermarkets across the Medway Towns to collect the donated items and take them to the charity’s headquarters on the Medway City Estate.”

Twice a week, other members of team mhs transport stock to the distribution centre, where the foodbank team packs around 100 emergency food parcels each week and delivers them to people in need of help.

Medway Foodbank Warehouse Manager Kevin Jennings explained: “To support local people while keeping them and our volunteers safe, we have moved away from people collecting food from our support centres to a home delivery system, and we are very grateful for mhs homes’ help with moving the donations and stock.”

“Their support has been very welcome – without it we really would have been struggling to meet the need at the moment.”

The foodbank project was established in 2011 and is run by a local charity called Help in the Community. Medway Foodbank relies solely on donated food, money, time and support.

Scott Norris added: “Team mhs is delighted to be helping the foodbank and playing a part in such a worthwhile community project. The teamwork has been great and it’s good to know that we’re helping local people in crisis during such a difficult time.”
