New road layout opening soon

The wait is nearly over…..

A new section of the A2 in Sittingbourne which has been closed for several months, is due to reopen on Monday (22nd October).A249 Diversion

St Michaels Road & Milton Road will re-open after been reconfigured for the past 4 months, while remaining works will continue on the closed Dover Street, which are expected to take a further week.

The roadworks, which were due to be completed before the children went back after the summer holidays were delayed are all part of the Sittingbourne Regeneration project costing upto £57 Million.

From Monday (22nd October) traffic will be able to travel up Milton Road (Beside the Fountain of Ale Pub) and travel in front of the Train Station and “Langs” cocktail bar. The former roundabout outside the train station has now been replaced by Traffic Lights, and the former train station car park (outside the

train station), remains closed to make way for the new Travelodge hotel.

Now this phase of the road realignment is complete, work can now begin on the leisure quarter of the project which will include Nandos, Pizza Express , an 8 screen Cinema and a Travelodge Hotel.

“Improve traffic flow…”

A spokesman from the Spirit of Sittingbourne said “We are delighted to open the A2 in line with the revised timetable.”

“The opening of the road will significantly improve traffic flow through Sittingbourne town centre.

“We are now beginning construction of the leisure quarter, which will bring a host of brand new leisure facilities to Sittingbourne.”

The scheme is expected to attract up to 400,000 visitors to the town a year.

Work Continues….

Work continues in St Michaels road, as a new multi storey car park is being erected beside the Forum shopping centre.
