Remembrance Day Services

There are a number of services taking place in the BRFM area on Remembrance Sunday.  We will also have live coverage from the Cenotaph in London from 11am, on 95.6 BRFM

Isle of Sheppey

The Lychgate, Leysdown (Sheppey East)

2pm. Act of Remembrance, lasting approx 20 minutes, taken by the Reverend Chris Shipley (01795 880205 or contact via Eastchurch Church Warden, Mr Anthony Padman, 01795 880650). Councillor Mini Nissanga will attend and lay a wreath.

Abbey Church of St. Mary and St. Sexburgha, Minster (Minster Cliffs)

10.45am. A Remembrance Service will be held with the Reverend Tim Hall officiating (01795 877734 or contact through Maggie Wallis at Minster Abbey Parish Office 01795 871500). Councillor Ken Pugh representing the Mayor, will read a Lesson and lay a wreath in the Chapel of Remembrance.

Holy Trinity Church, Queenborough (Queenborough & Halfway)

10.45am. The Service of Remembrance in Church, and laying of wreaths at the War Memorial at 11am – The Reverend Jeanette McLaren will officiate (contact through Reverend Tim Hall 01795 877734 or Maggie Wallis at Minster Abbey Parish Office 01795 871500). Councillor Peter Marchington will represent the Mayor.

The Cenotaph, Sheerness (Sheerness)

10.30 for 11am. Short Service and wreath laying at the Cenotaph. Councillor Angela Harrison will attend. Participants then process to Holy Trinity Church, Broadway, for a service at 11.45am. The Reverend Paul Kite will officiate at both venues (01795 663791 or contact through Maggie Wallis at Minster Abbey Parish Office 01795 871500).

All Saints Church, Eastchurch (Sheppey East)

10am Parish Eucharist and 10.45am Service of Remembrance in the Church followed by wreath laying and Act of Remembrance at the Lychgate, then return to church for prayers. The Reverend Chris Shipley will officiate (01795 880205 or contact via Eastchurch Church Warden, Mr Anthony Padman 01795 880650). The Mayor will be represented by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Lesley Ingham.

War Grave, Harty (Sheppey Central)

3pm approx. Service and Act of Remembrance. Councillor June Garrad will attend the Service and lay a wreath. The Reverend Chris Shipley will officiate (01795 880205 or contact via Eastchurch Church Warden, Mr Anthony Padman, 01795 880650). In the event of inclement weather the Service will be held in St. Thomas’ Church.

Sittingbourne

Church of Ss Peter & Paul, Borden (Borden & Grove Park)

9.45am The Parish Eucharist, followed by an Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial, will be taken by Father John H G Lewis SSC (01795 472986). The Mayor will be represented by Councillor Nicholas Hampshire, who will attend and lay a wreath.

Church of St Bartholomew, Bobbing (Bobbing, Iwade & Lower Halstow)

10.45am An informal service of Remembrance will be led by Reverend Sue Samson (01795 478635), Team Curate for Holy Trinity Sittingbourne with Bobbing. The recently restored War Memorial inside the church will be re-dedicated during the service. Councillor Ben Stokes representing the Mayor, will attend and lay a wreath.

Church of St Mary the Virgin, Newington (Hartlip, Newington, & Upchurch)

10am. This service, followed by an Act of Remembrance at 11am, will be taken by Lay Reader Amanda Lane (contact through The Reverend Julian Staniforth 01795 227329). The Mayor will be represented by Councillor Mike Baldock who will attend and lay a wreath.

Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Upchurch (Hartlip, Newington, & Upchurch)

10.15 am. The Service of Remembrance will be taken by The Reverend Julian Staniforth (01795 227329) and the Reverend Mark Ham, with an Act of Remembrance at 11am. Councillor Gerry Lewin, representing the Mayor, will attend and lay a wreath.

Church of St. Michael & All Angels, Hartlip (Hartlip, Newington & Upchurch)

10.15am. The Service and Act of Remembrance at 11am will be taken by the Reverend Ron Partridge (contact through The Reverend Julian Staniforth 01795 227329). Councillor John Wright, representing the Mayor, will attend and lay a wreath.

St. Margaret’s Church, Lower Halstow (Bobbing, Iwade & Lower Halstow)

10.30 am. This service will be taken by Mr Alan Swift (01795 842749 or contact through The Reverend Julian Staniforth 01795 227329). Councillor Duncan Dewar-Whalley, representing the Mayor, will attend the service and lay a wreath.

All Saints Church, Iwade (Bobbing, Iwade & Lower Halstow)

10.45am. This Service, with an Act of Remembrance at 11am, will be led by The Reverend Captain Stephen Plumb (01795 429752 or contact through The Reverend Julian Staniforth 01795 227329). The Mayor will be represented by Councillor James Hunt who will lay a wreath.

Holy Trinity Church, Milton Regis (Milton Regis)

9.30am Parade from Green Porch Close, through Milton Regis – Councillor Roger Clark to take part in the Parade, with Kent Corp of Drums.

10 am. This Service will be taken by the Reverend George Rogers (01795 472016 or 07527 746 060). Councillor Roger Clark representing the Mayor, will attend. At the conclusion of the Service he will lay a wreath at the memorial in the Church grounds.

All Saints Church, Murston (Murston)

10am. The Reverend Lesley Jones (01795 484297) will take the Service. Councillor Samuel Koffie-Williams representing the Mayor, will attend the Service and lay a wreath at the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial outside the church at 11am.

War Memorial, Central Avenue (Chalkwell)

From 10.30am for 10.50am (assembled by 10.45am). The Service will be led by Mrs Pat Tatchell, Chaplain to the Sittingbourne and Milton Branch of the Royal British Legion (01795 471956). The Mayor, Councillor Anita Walker, accompanied by Mayoral Cadet, Able Cadet Jamie Brown of Sheppey Sea Cadets and Mayoress Mrs Sylvia Lawrence, will attend and lay a wreath. After the Service the Mayor, her Cadet and a representative from The Royal British Legion, with others in attendance, will take the Salute as the Parade marches past the front of the Police Station in Central Avenue.

St. Giles Church, Tonge (Teynham & Lynsted)

10.30am. The Service will be taken by Lay Reader Heather Thompson (01795 477951 or contact via the Reverend Lesley Jones 01795 484297). Councillor Ghlin Whelan representing the Mayor, will lay a wreath on the altar and read a Lesson.

St. Mary’s Church, Teynham (Teynham & Lynsted)

10.45am. The Reverend Steve Lillicrap (01795 522510) will officiate. The Mayor will be represented by Councillor Lloyd Bowen who will lay a wreath in the Church during the Service.

St. Laurence Church, Bapchild (West Downs) 

10am for 10.30am. A Church Service will be taken by Reader Angie Daniel (01795 476281 or contact via the Reverend Lesley Jones 01795 484297). Councillor Monique Bonney representing the Mayor, will lay a wreath on the altar and read a Lesson.
