A Sittingbourne Teacher performs on new singing show.

A Computer-Science teacher from Sittingbourne was the first to appear on a new ITV singing show.
Mr George Wheeler a teacher from Fulston Manor Secondary School in Sittingbourne appeared on the ITV new entertainment Sunday evening show “Change your tune” which doesn’t look for the best singer, but the most improved.

Viewers see a performance from each of the public contestants who don’t have the voices like Elton John, Beyonce or Madonna, but give it their best shot. The contestants are then sent away for a couple of weeks to be coached to sing like a professional. The audience then votes out of 100 to say how improved they are, with the singer with the highest score receiving £10,000 at the end of the process.

Mr Wheeler applied for the show because he had always been criticised for his singing and wanted to join the Staff School Choir at the Brenchley Road School, but never had the confidence too.

The computer science teacher proceeded to do his first rendition of “The Source & Candi Staton’s – You Got the love, which was also covered more recently by Florence & the Machine. The audience roared with laughter at the performance due to how flat the song sounded. But when the teacher returned to the stage to re-sing the song, audience members were surprised by how much he had improved.
The audience gave him a total score of 73 out of 100, which seemed unbeatable as the next set of contestants scored lower. It then eventually came down to the final singer of the evening beating the Sittingbourne teacher with a score of 79.

A great experience

The computer science teacher said “It was a great experience; I’ve been surprised by how far I’ve come and hopefully the school choir is now on the cards.”  Students at the school, were first surprised when they see their teacher appear on an advert for the forthcoming show, but when the show started and Mr Wheeler was the first contestant of the new show, they couldn’t believe it.
