Multiple accidents on the same stretch of road
At approximately 10am today a three car accident caused the Lower Road to be closed. Police, Fire crews and Ambulance we at the scene. One woman involved was assessed for back and neck injuries and later taken to Medway Maritime Hospital. There were no serious injuries reported.
Whilst the emergency services dealt with the incident traffic built up along the Lower Road causing long delays. Motorist bypassed the congestion and this in turn caused major delays on other roads around the Island. Halfway and Minster were said to be at a standstill at times.
The Lower Road was reopened at 12.10pm.
Just two hours after the Lower Road opened the police closed it again due another accident near the Sheppey Rugby Club. There have been reports of someone being cut out of their vehicle but, at this time, this has not been confirmed by official sources.
